After growing concern being expressed by residents about semi-trucks and other large trucks on the residential City Streets, the City Council tasked staff to draft a City Ordinance for semi-trucks and other large trucks restricting residential streets from routine truck traffic. City Staff reviewed several ordinances from other communities around the State and drafted a ruck Route ordinance for City Council consideration, which was passed on December 12, 2023.
Enforcement of this law goes into effect on February 15, 2024.

This ordinance restricts vehicles or combination of vehicles, to include trailers, licensed for a gross vehicle weight of more than twenty-six thousand (26,000) pounds from traversing residential streets except for the purpose of making deliveries. All other travel on residential streets is strictly prohibited by vehicles, or combination of vehicles, to include trailers that are licensed for a gross vehicle weight of more than twenty-six thousand (26,000) pounds. The overall impact is that most City streets, excluding MoDOT system state highways, are considered “Residential Streets” and trucks greater than Twenty-Six Thousand pounds gross vehicle weight may only use them in order to make a delivery or make a pickup to or from a commercial business, and manifests may be requested to confirm delivery or pickup. All other traffic by the affected vehicles is prohibited and the driver is subject to a traffic citation.
