PAID SUMMER INTERNSHIP – City Manager’s Office, City of Aurora

The City of Aurora is strongly committed to assisting the professional development of graduates of the Aurora Senior High School and the Aurora Areas by supporting educational and employment opportunities as they work toward post high-school educational and career goals.

Toward this end, the City of Aurora is currently taking applications for a Paid Summer Intern position from college students who have completed 24 or more semester hours of college credit, and are pursuing a degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, Management, Journalism, Public Relations, Media, or other closely related field.  Preference will be given to Aurora High School Alumni.

2022 Aurora Senior High graduates that will be enrolling in college this fall will be considered with 3 Letters of Recommendation from Aurora High Faculty.

Schedule: The Intern position will work 15 to 30 hrs. per week with more hours possible.  Weekly scheduling of hours will be mutually agreed upon and flexible to accommodate the needs of the intern and City Manager’s Office staff.  The City Manager’s Office hours are Monday – Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.  The hours of work will generally fall into that period of time, however, periodic attendance at some evening meetings may be needed.  

Attendance: As a paid internship, regular and dependable attendance will be required based on the scheduled mutually agreed upon with the Intern.

Salary: Salary for this Internship will be $12.50 to $14.50 per hour depending on qualifications.

This position may be filled by two Interns as needed to fulfill the time requirements.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

The Intern will perform general staff, clerical and confidential work for the City Clerk and City Manager. This position may also assist other Departments within City Hall and assist with various duties as directed.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Receive, forward, and respond to telephone calls assuring for politeness, confidentiality, and professionalism as well as providing general information or provide follow-up action on requests
  • Assisting with drafting and composing correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other related material from City Clerk and City Manager
  • Establishes, modifies, and maintains in current condition records, files and reports
  • Assist with filing, organizing or other office and administrative or clerical duties
  • Performs any other duties as may be prescribed by the City Clerk and City Manager
  • Assist with Social Media work and other public relations tasks as assigned

 

Review of candidates will begin immediately.  

 

Starting Date: Target Starting Date for the selected Intern will begin in May or June with internship ending approximately early to mid-August, to be mutually agreed upon.
